It is advisable to NEVER clean your coins. Your
coins contain a certain patina about them, like antiques, the
patina should never be removed. The patina is a chemical
process caused by oxygen in the air. This could be harmful to
the coin. So cleaning your coins is never
recommended. Remember this, if it is your intention to clean
your coins, the new shinny metal that you are now looking at
from cleaning your coin, is the same coin that your coin had
with the patina. Not only is the grade of the coin going
to be the same, you have now possibly degraded the coin further
by cleaning your coins. In addition, never wrap your
coins in paper, paper contains trace amounts of sulfuric acid,
which is a an acid that is used in paper manufacturing.
However, if it is still your want to clean your coins, use a
mild detergent in warm water, dip them into the water and pat
them dry. Never use a brush of a mild abrasive cleaner
when cleaning you coins.
Coin handling,
Coin storing, and
Cleaning your Coins are very
important roles in having a successful coin collection. Keeping
your coins in the best possible condition, is inheritably the
most conscious choice you can make about your collection. Make
it a big part of your hobby, and it will be more enjoyable for
you. |
