Coin Supplies

So what are the coin supplies that you will need to start collecting coins?  Well coins are a great start, but there are a many things needed to be a coin collector.  Here will be a great source of information for the coin collecting supplies needed in coin collecting.

So lets outfit you with some much needed coin supplies to get you started in this great hobby of coin collecting.  Most people start out small, others go straight out and get what they need and be done with it.  While others just start out and upgrade as their coin collection grows.  Some of the simplest items are coin folders. Whitman has a great selection of coin folders which can be purchased from any hobby store or book store.  They make them with two styles, dated and undated.  This way you can keep track of what coins you have, or just keep them organized.  Coin Sleeves and plastic holders are also a nice choice for the collector.  Coin dealers should carry all the coin supplies that you would need to begin your coin collecting.

Another item that the coin collector is going to need is a good price guide.  The Official Black Book of United States Coins is a great start.  A good guide book will help you, not only help you price your coins, but it will help you, get acquainted with the coins that you are hoping to collect.  There are also coin guides for World Coins as well.  If you were curious on collecting foreign coins, you will definitely need a guide book for these as well. You can also check out our Price Guide link on our navigation bar for some online price guides.

A loupe (magnifying glass) would be a very nice piece to have in your coin supplies arsenal.  They are used to view your newly acquired coins.  They can help you aid in grading your coins, and seeing the finer details of the coins. You will want to have one that is of at least 10x power to be able to see all the imperfections of the coins and where the wear on the coins is exactly at.

One of the last coin collecting supplies that you will basically need is a nice storage box to keep your coins in.  A lot of people store their coins in a safety deposit box to keep them safe, of course you can't view your coins whenever you want that way.  Maybe a nice home safe would be more to your liking.  They stay safe and in the comfort of your own home for your viewing pleasure.   Also see our Coin Handling page for other safe means of storing your coin collection.
